Before The Clock Unwinds

When we were young, the summers stayed,
Long golden roads where daylight played;
A year was wide, a world to cross –
We never counted time or loss.

But seasons learn to turn and flee,
Like startled birds from every tree;
The weeks fold in, the birthdays chime,
And suddenly – we’re chasing time.

The mirror keeps what years have drawn,
Yet every dusk still yields a dawn;
Each silver thread, each softened line,
Reminds us: now is yours and mine.

So do not save the words you mean,
Or wait for some more perfect scene;
Call those you love, forgive, begin –
Let all the waiting light come in.

Drink in the rain, the morning air,
The quiet grace of being there;
Say yes to wonder, rest, and play –
Make something living of today.

For life is not the years we store,
But doors we open, hearts explore;
A thousand moments, bright and small,
Become the richest gift of all.

And if this hour should be the last
Before it joins the vanished past,
Then hold it close, and let it prove:
You spent it awake – with joy, with love.
